European Political Community: Leaders Reaffirm Support for Ukraine and Moldova
The fourth meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) took place at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, bringing together 43 heads of state and government, including EU leaders and representatives from Ukraine, Moldova, and other neighboring countries. This high-level gathering reaffirmed the continent’s unified stance in support of Ukraine and Moldova amidst the ongoing geopolitical challenges in the region.
Support for Ukraine: A Unified European Message
One of the central outcomes of this meeting was the collective reaffirmation of Europe’s commitment to support Ukraine. In light of the ongoing conflict and instability caused by the Russian invasion, European leaders stressed the importance of continuing economic, military, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. The unity displayed at this summit sends a powerful message of solidarity, ensuring that Ukraine remains at the forefront of Europe’s political agenda.
Commitment to Energy and Connectivity
Energy and connectivity were major themes of discussion. With Europe facing an energy crisis exacerbated by the war, the EPC emphasized the need for collaboration in diversifying energy sources and enhancing infrastructure. This includes the continued support for Ukraine’s energy needs while reducing dependence on Russian energy supplies.
Security, Democracy, and Migration
The leaders also discussed the broader security situation in Europe, with a focus on safeguarding democratic values across the continent. In addition, migration was highlighted as a pressing issue, with the need to find sustainable solutions that protect borders while upholding humanitarian values.
Moldova’s Path to a Secure and Prosperous Future
On the margins of the meeting, European Council President Charles Michel and several key European leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, met with President Maia Sandu of Moldova. The discussions centered on strengthening cooperation to ensure Moldova’s security and prosperity in an increasingly unstable geopolitical environment. European leaders pledged to continue providing support to Moldova, recognizing the strategic importance of stabilizing the region.

Looking ahead, the next EPC meetings are scheduled to take place in Hungary on 7 November 2024 and in Albania in 2025. These meetings will continue to build on the discussions initiated at Blenheim Palace, further shaping Europe’s political and security landscape.
